Israel Tents Cities Arrive at Rutgers Hillel

This week we celebrated the glorious Israeli democracy. Before Occupy
Wall Street and the Arab Spring, Israelis have experienced the freedom to express
themselves in regard to social and political issues. Through learning about the
tent protests that took place in Israel this summer, we explored social movements
that have developed out of the freedoms of public participation offered to all
Israelis. Hundreds of thousands of people from all cultural, ethnic, religious, and
political backgrounds came together in the largest social protest in Israel’s history
to improve social issues including healthcare, affordable housing, and education to
name a few.

At Hillel we decided to use the Tent Protest as a model for students to
create their very own protests concerning issues relevant to Rutgers students. After
considering a cause, demands, and prospective outcome students created artistic
logos, catchy slogans, and their very own tent city blue prints! Thanks to everyone
who came out to celebrate Israeli democracy!
